Why I think you'd like the PIPA aire rx

The aire rx gives you:

When I'd pick the PIPA rx instead

I'd choose the PIPA rx if you strongly prefer its slightly more traditional/heavier construction or find a substantially better deal. It is still an excellent seat.

The PIPA rx weighs 7 lb before the canopy/inserts, compared with 6.2 lb for the aire rx.

So what's the real tradeoff?

PIPA rx = more substantial/heavier construction

PIPA aire rx = lighter construction with essentially the same major safety and convenience features

The PIPA aire rx isn't a stripped-down version of the PIPA rx. That's the important distinction. Nuna calls it a "lightweight, full-featured" infant car seat.

And both use the PIPA RELX base, which is a big deal because you get the same base features: True Lock installation, bubble-free recline positions, steel stability leg, anti-rebound panel, rigid LATCH, belt-path installation, etc.

My pick for you: PIPA aire rx

If the prices are close, I'd spend the money on the aire rx. You're getting the lighter seat without really sacrificing the features that make the PIPA rx so good.

I'd especially look at how often you're going to physically carry the seat. If you're going to be popping it in and out of the car, carrying it through the store, using it with a stroller, traveling, etc., that weight difference becomes surprisingly noticeable.
